Yup, I need investors. Weeks have gone by since my last post. Things are progressing very slowly, so bear with me as I explain.
As you recall, I’ve stated how the releases are costing about $18-19,000. A significant part was from the Kickstarter ($7300) and the rest has come from me. This amount has totaled nearly $8000 or so. I’m definitely not a rich kid. I’ve pressed records before, and I know how to put together a release. But financing is always (as with many people) the thing that prevents me from moving forward quickly. I’ve sold entire collections of vinyl, cd’s, dvd’s, video games, books, and comic books, but it’s never enough. My meager earnings from low-paying jobs prevents me from moving more quickly.
I sent out over 100 press releases to music blogs. Only 1 posted about the records, to my knowledge.
I’m going to be blunt. I’m nearly $4,000 away from being able to finish. And that doesn’t even include postage.
Now here’s another wrench: I’m moving to Vermont with my wife. From San Diego,CA. She’s going to school there in White River Junction. We both assumed that the records would be done before we leave, which will be August 1st. We thought pre-sales would be able to keep up with the production. But they’ve come to a complete halt.
So now, because of funding issues, I will have to figure out what to do. I have to either move the record components across country (which now total 2200 vinyl records, and 2200 gatefold jackets.) or find a place to operate in San Diego (for either free or very cheap) until everything is done.
So I need investors of a few types. I can reward people with reimbursements when we can afford it, executive producer credits, subscriptions with test presses, whatever we can do.
1. I need finishing funds. Anyone who would like to discuss a possible partnership, please email me at info@overduecollection.com. This will be a loan. I will pay it back, but it may take time.
2. Space. Anyone in San Diego that can provide office or warehouse space for storage for free or dirt cheap. If we keep operations in San Diego, I would need assistance from this person help package the records when everything is completed. I will be working constantly anyway I can to finish up design production. I will stay until it’s finished.
Same thing goes for people in Vermont or near it. Though I would truly dread these records enduring a cross-country trip for safety purposes, it may be the only option.
3. Help me promote. Anyway you can. Tell people to go to http://overduecollection.limitedpressing.com and order. After these three Gatsbys releases are finished, I promise I won’t release another record until I have a higher-paying job. Something with an expendable incoming that will allow me to come out with something instantly rather than dragging along for months like we have been. I love this band so much, and I’m so dedicated to making sure these releases are amazing. I was way to idealistic and naive to think everything would be instantly solvent.
But the past couple of months have been the most excruciating of my life. My hair is literally turning gray from this stress. Maybe I am in over my head, but god dammit, this will come to fruition if it fucking kills me.
I apologize to everyone for these delays.
Now for production news.
A couple of weeks ago, I received gatefold jackets for Ribbons & Sugar. Printed on recycled cardstock, in full color with a matte coating, I was definitely excited. They looked fantastic. But there was a significant problem. The inside right panel was completely blank, despite a proof that was approved for print.
Needless to say, the printer did me solid and printed it correctly. They told me I could keep the misprinted jackets. So…
Subscribers, here’s another treat. All of the Subscriber Exclusive records for Ribbons & Sugar will be packaged in the misprinted jackets. The rest will be re-purposed or sent to the recycling plant.
Despite having the jackets, I still don’t have liner notes completed. I just finished up my band interviews yesterday, and I’m currently transcribing and editing the talks. I think everyone will find the interviews enlightening, and hopefully give you more perspective on the albums. After editing, they will be laid out and sent to the printer.
After that, everything can be shipped out if we can pay for it all.
